A visit to Sri Lanka is not possible under such difficult conditions: Papon

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made it clear that it is impossible to accept the conditions set by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) for the tour to play a three-match Test series as part of the ICC World Test Championship.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the board of directors and other high-ranking officials today. The BCB has already informed the SLC of its decision.

However, BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon said the terms offered by the SLC were rare and it was not possible to visit Sri Lanka if the terms were adhered to.

The problem is that the Bangladesh players will have to stay in the quarantine for 14 days during the tour of Sri Lanka and at that time they will have to stay in the hotel according to the strict protocol. So with a 14-day quarantine, it will be difficult to prepare for the series.

Initially, the BCB said that it wants to arrive in Sri Lanka on September 26 and stay in quarantine for seven days and start training from the next day. According to the probable schedule, the series is scheduled to start from October 23.

According to the new conditions of the SLC, the Bangladesh team will not be able to have more than 30 members including the coaching staff. The reason for the increase in the number of members of the team is that the BCB had planned a high performance team's tour of Sri Lanka with the national team. Which put Sri Lanka in trouble.

After the meeting with the directors, BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon told the media today, "Many conditions are new to us."

"I have talked to countries where cricket has returned," he added. Most teams have quarantined for seven days and the visiting team has been allowed to practice there. In some places, visiting teams have been allowed to enter the field after three days of quarantine. But on the condition given by the SLC yesterday, our team members will not be allowed to leave the house before 14 days. Not even for food. '

"I don't know what the cause is, but there are some reasons behind it," Papon said. I knew Sri Lanka was a country that had successfully tackled the Covid-19 problem and that is why we agreed to travel there. Now it seems to us that they are dealing with a difficult situation with Kovid-19 which we do not know. They are playing domestic cricket, but when our time comes, they are imposing restrictions. '

Revealing the terms and conditions offered by Sri Lanka, the BCB president said it was not easy to accept.

The BCB boss said, "Initially, our team will be in Dambulla, not Colombo. Even then they will not let our members out of the house. These conditions are surprising. When it comes to the benefits of practice, they will not give us a net bowler and at the same time they will not allow us to carry a teammate. It's not a children's game, it's the ICC Test Championship. There's a lot of difference in our thinking. '

He added, "Such conditions are really rare. It is not possible to play a Test championship in such conditions.

According to the provisional schedule, the first two Tests of the series were to be played in Kandy and the last in Colombo. Even if the series is canceled in the end, the BCB has not thought of anything to replace it at the moment.

"The Lankan board has been informed," Papon said. Hopefully, we will get the answer soon. However, we have not yet thought of anything instead of that series. One thing we want to do is bring cricket back on the field. Not sure if any international team will play with us. Our goal, however, is to start domestic cricket soon. It is not planned yet, but we will return to cricket very soon. The coaching staff will be here, the cricketers have not been playing for a long time, so now we have some plans. '
